Spokesperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Member of Parliament, Manish Jha, met former President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday at her residence. During the meeting, the two discussed the current political situation.
After the meeting, Jha said, “It was a political and courtesy meeting. There was no special agenda; rather, it was a beginning of political dialogue.”
During the conversation, former President Bhandari expressed concern that instead of resolving the cooperative issue, it has unnecessarily been turned into a political matter. She remarked that it was wrong to imprison RSP President Rabi Lamichhane under a political case. According to Jha, Bhandari stated that it was inappropriate for the government to arrest people when the cooperative funds had not been recovered.
Bhandari also mentioned that she had already advanced significantly toward being active in the CPN-UML. “She expressed goodwill and respect toward the new generation’s political practices,” Jha added, “and said she was dissatisfied that the cooperative issue had been politicized to trouble Rabi Lamichhane. She further expressed her goodwill toward him.”
Bhandari also emphasized that there should be open debates and exchanges of ideas among different political parties. She expressed dissatisfaction over a serious environment being created against her within the party. Citing Bhandari, Jha said, “Chairman KP Sharma Oli himself had once told me in Baluwatar that Bidya Bhandari should return to active politics. That is why it is being discussed on social media that she is coming back to politics. But now, it seems Oli himself is preventing her return.”
