
Continuous rainfall since Sunday morning has led to the flooding of over a dozen homes and animal sheds in Matahiya of Narainapur-5, Banke. Local resident Gyan Kanoujiya reported that 11 houses in the village have been submerged due to relentless rainfall and poor drainage.
According to Kanoujiya, the water has entered the homes and sheds of residents including Bhujai Yadav, Bhusaili Darji, Salim Darji, and Binod Maurya, among others, making the houses uninhabitable. Victim Bhujai Yadav said that food items and clothing have been soaked and damaged due to the flooding.
As rainfall continues in Banke, Narainapur Rural Municipality Chairperson Ishtiyaq Ahmad Shah has urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions. He advised locals to immediately report any incidents of flooding and to move to higher ground if necessary.
Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) of Banke has projected that around 15,000 households could be affected by flooding and inundation this year. The committee said various measures have been adopted to minimize the risk.
DDMC Chairperson and Chief District Officer Dharmaraj Joshi has also urged all eight municipalities of the district to remain alert and prepared now that the monsoon has begun.
