Citing his remarks at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, claimed that he facilitated former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s potential return to active politics. He clarified that the return of a former president or vice president to politics does not violate the constitution, laws, or any legal provisions. “No law prevents a president from re-entering active politics, nor does any party have restrictions on such participation. This is merely an argument without substance,” he stated.
Prachanda noted that former Vice President Nanda Kishor Pun had been reintegrated into his party, which, according to him, paved the way for former President Bhandari to come back into politics. Regarding earlier reports about making Bhandari the party chair after her China visit, he said he was unaware of how those plans evolved. He also dismissed rumors of a “Plan B” involving Bhandari, adding that he currently has no contact with her.
On a separate note, Prachanda emphasized that issues concerning the Lipulekh and Kalapani border areas, including trade agreements with India and China, should be resolved through dialogue. He said that during his tenure as prime minister, discussions with India led to an agreement to address these border disputes through negotiations.
