The Machhikhola–Larke Bhanjyang road in northern Gorkha has been closed indefinitely after a massive landslide and rockfall swept away the road section near Khotrang Khola, Dovan, Dharche Rural Municipality–3, at around 6 AM on Friday.
Following the landslide on the main road connecting Dharche Rural Municipality to Chumnubri Rural Municipality, all vehicular and pedestrian movement has been completely halted. Dharche Rural Municipality issued a public notice on Friday urging all travelers not to use the road.
Since the collapsed section cannot be reopened immediately and no diversion is possible, travel through the road remains entirely blocked. Chairperson of Dharche Rural Municipality, Laxman Gurung, said: “As the landslide occurred in a difficult and high-risk area, the rural municipality requests people not to risk traveling through this route.”
Authorities have stated that once the landslide stabilizes, efforts will be made to clear the debris using available JCB equipment to restore transportation as soon as possible. The rural municipality also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
Meanwhile, Acting Chief Administrative Officer Binayak Timalsina urged citizens not to risk traveling, as continuous rainfall in northern Gorkha has severely damaged the road. A formal notice signed by Timalsina stated that the road will remain completely closed until further notice.
