Udayapur, Aug 5: Continuous rainfall for the past three days has caused a sharp rise in water levels of the Saptakoshi River, placing several areas of Belka Municipality in Udayapur at high risk of flooding.
Wards 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9 — especially the riverside villages — are facing increased threats of inundation and riverbank erosion, according to Belka Municipality Deputy Mayor Jira Rai.
Following the rise in water levels, Chief District Officer (CDO) Prem Prasad Luintel, along with a security team, conducted an on-site inspection of the vulnerable areas, the District Administration Office confirmed.
CDO Luintel stated that locals have been urged to remain alert, and necessary preparedness measures are being taken to minimize potential disaster risks.
The District Administration Office reported that areas like Kothu, Dumribot, and Sisauli have already seen Saptakoshi’s water breaching the riverbanks. Local residents have been advised to stay cautious.
Superintendent of Police Harihar Nath Yogi of the District Police Office informed that rescue and relief teams are on standby. The Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force have been mobilized in preparation for any emergency.
Municipal Mayor Ashok Karki said a joint inspection by district officials, security agencies, and local representatives has been carried out and preemptive actions have begun.
