
The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) will hold its second Statute General Convention from September 6 to 8 at Sunrise Hall, Godawari, Lalitpur. Party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the convention at 11 AM on September 6.
The party has announced that 2,026 delegates and 315 organizing committee members, totaling 2,341 participants, will attend. The convention will be held under the main slogan: “Our Resolve: Building Decisive National Power; Our Destination: Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis.” Party Central Publicity Department Chief Rajendra Gautam stated that preparations have been completed to make the convention grand and organized.
At the convention, Chairman Oli will present the political report, Vice-Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel will present the statute amendment proposals, and General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel will present the organizational report. Additionally, the chairs of the Central Discipline Commission, Audit Commission, Election Commission, and Advisory Council are also scheduled to present their reports.
The proposed statute amendments include removing the 70-year age limit, making district committees executive bodies, forming a 251-member central committee, a one-third politburo, and a 15-member standing committee. The standing committee is also proposed to include at least one woman.
The organizational report will present the challenges in party-building, solutions, and a roadmap for building decisive national power. The political report will analyze national and international situations and outline the party’s future direction and roadmap for establishing socialism.
Eight subcommittees have been formed to ensure the convention’s success. Preparations for reception, accommodation, health, publicity, stage decoration, cultural programs, transport, and security have all been completed.
The UML has emphasized that journalists’ creative support is essential for the success of this historic convention and has requested cooperation in collecting and disseminating factual information.
The press conference was attended by General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, Deputy General Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung, Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, Leader Lalbabu Pandit, and Chief of Central Publicity Department Rajendra Gautam, among other leaders.
