Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Vice President Dr. Swarnim Wagle has formally filed a complaint with the Cyber Bureau, claiming that a “deepfake” audio mimicking his voice has been circulated publicly.
On Wednesday afternoon, Wagle personally went to the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau office in Bhotahiti to register the complaint.
Bureau spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepakraj Awasthi confirmed that the complaint has been lodged.
Recently, various videos and text content linking Wagle’s name to Nepal–India relations and border issues have surfaced on social media. Some of these materials depict him as if he were in conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Wagle has strongly objected to such content, clarifying that they are fabricated and misleading. He has also demanded that those spreading rumors and posting fake materials be brought under legal scrutiny.
Amid growing concerns over cybercrime, Wagle’s complaint has further fueled debate on the misuse of deepfake technology and the need for its legal regulation in Nepal.
