Starting Kartik 1, poor citizens enrolled in health insurance will receive integrated treatment facilities for eight serious illnesses. Currently, patients suffering from heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, spinal injury, head injury, and sickle cell anemia are covered under this scheme.
The Ministry of Health and Population decided to integrate the Social Health Security Program into a one-door system, which will take effect from Kartik.
To implement this system, the ministry recently approved the “Directive for the Operation of the Poor Citizens’ Medicine Treatment Program, 2080 (First Amendment, 2082)”. According to the revised directive, all treatment expenses for poor citizens will be paid through the Health Insurance Board.
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki stated that this facility will be available only through the health insurance system. Therefore, both current beneficiaries and those wishing to access the service must compulsorily enroll in health insurance.
He added: “To ensure that ongoing patients continue receiving services, we have requested them to complete insurance enrollment by the end of Ashoj. This system will integrate scattered programs into a one-door mechanism and ensure the proper utilization of state resources.”
For this purpose, instructions have already been issued to the Health Insurance Board and the Nursing and Social Security Division to facilitate registration of current service users by the end of Ashoj.
