CPN-UML Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has pledged to resolve the Lipulekh border dispute through dialogue with India. Inaugurating the party’s second statute convention in Lalitpur on Friday, Oli said negotiations with India are necessary to address the issue.
He revealed that he had expressed disagreement to President Xi Jinping after China signed a trade agreement with India concerning Lipulekh. Oli also remarked that some so-called “well-informed people” had misinterpreted his stance on nationalism. He clarified that Nepal has not made any response to China’s Global Security Initiative (GSI) proposal.
Highlighting governance, development, stability, national integrity, and sovereignty, Oli claimed that public trust in UML has grown. He asserted that no matter how much UML and its leaders are criticized, Nepali citizens continue to place their trust in the party.
Oli further stated that if UML succeeds in winning the people’s confidence, no one can stop the party from securing a majority in the 2084 (2027) elections.
He claimed that political instability and anarchy had been brought under control after UML began cooperating with the Nepali Congress, and that collaboration between the two major parties had freed the Maoists from their “illusion of holding the magic number.”
Oli credited the trust shown by the public and party cadres for giving UML the strength to lead movements, adding that he is confident in the vigilance of party members. He also presented the political report at the convention.
