
An elderly priest has died under suspicious circumstances in Kanchanrup Municipality, Saptari. The 75-year-old priest, who had been serving at the Kali Temple near Sundari Bridge in Ward 8 for the past six to seven years, was found injured inside the temple premises on Saturday evening. His identity has not yet been confirmed.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jitendra Kumar Basnet of the Saptari District Police Office, the priest was discovered with a head injury. Locals rushed him to Kanchanpur Municipal Hospital, but he died during treatment.
DSP Basnet said that it remains unclear whether the priest sustained the injury from a fall or if someone pushed him. “The death appears suspicious, and police have begun an investigation,” he added.
The body has been sent to the mortuary at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj, for postmortem, police confirmed.
