On the third day of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) Constitution Convention, group leaders presented their report following internal discussions. They stated that there is no alternative to party leadership other than Chairman KP Sharma Oli. The conclusion was shared during a group meeting on Sunday morning at the Sunrise Hall in Godawari, Lalitpur.
The group leaders expressed agreement with the main concepts of the reports, which included Chairman Oli’s political report, Vice Chairman Bishnu Paudel’s proposed constitutional amendments, General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel’s organizational report, and other commission reports, with some suggestions. Presenting the report, Sudurpashchim Province Committee Chair Krishna Prasad Jaishi said, “There is full consensus on the submitted report. Our group has concluded that currently, there is no alternative to Chairman KP Sharma Oli for party leadership.”
Similarly, Karnali Province Chair and group leader Gulabjung Shah supported Jaishi’s statement, saying, “Now is the time to further consolidate leadership. There is no alternative to Chairman KP Sharma Oli in the party’s future leadership.”
Lumbini Province Chair and group leader Radhakrishna Kandel emphasized the need for unified leadership to build socialism based on Nepali characteristics, urging the party to move forward cohesively. Gandaki Province Vice Chair and group leader Min Prasad Gurung stated that the reports provide clear guidance to achieve the national aspiration of a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepalis.
Bagmati Province Chair and group leader Kailash Dhungel said that within their group, most members supported removing the age limit of 70 and the two-term restriction, with a suggestion that no votes should be annulled. Dhungel added, “During his visit to China, KP Sharma Oli took a firm stance on Lipulekh with the Chinese President. Our group believes he deserves the highest respect for this.”
Madhesh Province Chair and group leader Chandreshwar Mandal stated that the upcoming convention should reaffirm KP Sharma Oli as party leader. “Amidst domestic and foreign pressures on the party, leadership must be established through the convention,” Mandal added.
Koshi Province Chair and group leader Ghanshyam Khatiwada welcomed Vice Chairman Bishnu Paudel’s proposed amendments to remove the 70-year age limit and two-term restriction. Khatiwada emphasized, “The party’s constitution and the national constitution should clearly state that elected or appointed officials such as the President, Vice President, and members of constitutional commissions should not return to daily politics.”
