The Butwal–Narayangadh section of the East-West Highway remains blocked since Monday morning due to a landslide in Daunne Hill.
Continuous rainfall triggered landslides, mudslides, and slippery road conditions at Daunne Hill in Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality-2 of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), causing the highway to be impassable. Superintendent of Police Yadav Dhakal of the District Police Office, Nawalparasi (East), stated that the road could not be reopened due to persistent rain.
“The uphill stretch has become extremely slippery due to rain and landslide debris, making it impossible for vehicles to pass,” he said. “Even though gravel was laid on the road near the under-construction bridge close to the Bishwakarma Temple in Daunne, it hasn’t eased vehicle movement.”
Vehicles stuck in mud on the road have added to the complications. With the road blocked for over 24 hours, hundreds of passengers and drivers are stranded along the route.
The ongoing road expansion project along the Butwal–Narayangadh section, especially the hill-cutting work in Daunne, has made the area prone to frequent blockages even during normal rainfall.
