The Kathmandu District Administration Office has imposed an indefinite curfew inside the Ring Road area, effective from 8:30 a.m. today until further notice. Chief District Officer Chhabi Lal Rijal confirmed the decision.
The earlier curfew, enforced on Monday following protests by the Gen-Z movement, had expired at 5:00 a.m. today. However, a fresh order issued by the administration extended the curfew indefinitely starting 8:30 a.m.
The restricted zone covers the entire area inside the Ring Road, stretching from Balkumari Bridge to Koteshwor, Sinamangal, Gaushala, Chabahil, Narayan Gopal Chowk, Gongabu, Balaju, Swayambhu, Kalanki, Balkhu, and up to the Bagmati River Bridge.
During the curfew, all public movement, gatherings, demonstrations, and rallies are prohibited, except for vehicles providing essential services.
The move comes after violent clashes during Gen-Z demonstrations against corruption and the government’s ban on social media, in which police gunfire killed 19 protesters and injured 421 others.
