The District Security Committee, Chitwan has requested prisoners who escaped from Bharatpur District Jail to come into contact with the administration.
On Wednesday evening, Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal, on behalf of the security committee, issued a notice urging the escaped inmates — who broke open the gate of the district prison on Wednesday morning — to surrender voluntarily.
In the notice, Aryal stated that prisoners would not be treated differently just because they left the prison, but warned that those failing to come forward would be arrested and brought back.
According to the committee, around 750 inmates left the Chitwan jail on Wednesday, taking along their personal belongings. Some reportedly seized police weapons as well.
The notice also instructed the escaped inmates to return the weapons. Authorities confirmed that some of the prisoners have already been detained near the India border.
Meanwhile, the security committee announced that the prohibitory order (curfew) in the district would be gradually relaxed.
