Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narasingh KC has emphasized that President Ramchandra Poudel should address the nation regarding the current situation. Writing on social media, the former minister called for a public address to help stabilize the prevailing conditions.
“Reports suggest that some are contemplating restricting political parties and obstructing constitutional processes, even entertaining unconstitutional ideas. The alternative to democracy is an improved and refined form of democracy. In the current situation, active dialogue and consensus efforts by the constitution and its guardian, the President, as well as a public address on the current state of affairs, are essential. This is the wish of the Nepali people and the nation. I urge the President to pay immediate attention,” KC stated.
He also demanded that Gen Z and other groups be brought into talks and that the formation of a national government follow constitutional procedures.
In his social media post, KC elaborated:
- Nepal has one constitution created by the sovereign people through their representatives. While there are many flaws and weaknesses, periodic comprehensive review and amendment is necessary. Constitutional amendments must occur only through existing constitutional procedures and public mandate.
- The formation of a national government, including participation of Gen Z, must follow constitutional processes.
- Democracy is about resolving disputes, ideas, and conflicts through structured debate. When it turns violent, it assumes a cruel, fascist character. While the state is responsible for the killings on Bhadra 23, the destruction and looting of public buildings—including Singha Durbar, Parliament, and the Supreme Court—and private homes on Bhadra 24 by some protesters is unacceptable. A high-level judicial investigation is essential to ascertain the truth of these events.
- Any attempt to restrict political parties or obstruct constitutional processes is unconstitutional. The alternative is a better, more refined democracy. In the current context, active dialogue and consensus led by the President, along with a public address explaining the current situation, is necessary. This is the desire of the Nepali people and the nation.
KC stressed that the President’s immediate attention and action are vital to restore stability and safeguard constitutional governance.
