The by-election in Rupandehi-3, which was scheduled for Kartik 17, has been canceled. According to the Election Commission, given that the House of Representatives has already been dissolved and a new election date has been announced, a by-election is deemed unnecessary under the constitutional provisions.
The seat became vacant following the death of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Deepak Bohora, elected from Rupandehi-3 in 2079. The Election Commission had begun preparations to fill the vacancy, and political parties had finalized their candidate announcements and coalition strategies.
The Election Commission had also started updating the voter list, deploying staff, and undertaking other technical preparations. However, since the House of Representatives’ term was nearing its end and the remaining term was less than two years, the Commission decided not to hold the by-election under Article 84 (6) of the Constitution.
Commission officials stated, “All preparations have been automatically suspended due to the constitutional provisions.” Following this decision, the political activities ongoing in the district have also come to a halt.
