Sumana Shrestha, leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa) and former Education Minister, has clarified that she will not join the cabinet led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
Following her presence at the oath-taking ceremony at Sheetal Niwas on Friday evening, there had been speculation that she might be offered a ministerial post. However, in a Facebook Live session, Shrestha dismissed the rumors, stating, “I do not wish to join the cabinet; please do not be misled.”
She explained that her decision was influenced by respect for the young lives lost during the recent public movement. “The funerals of our young brothers and sisters are not yet complete. The change brought about by their sacrifice cannot be confined to power or positions. Now, attention must be on consolidating that change,” she said.
While extending her best wishes to the government, Shrestha urged political leaders to focus on service rather than power. “Let us think of service, not authority; action, not the chair. Let work, not name, speak,” she emphasized.
Although she will not take a ministerial role, Shrestha affirmed her commitment to supporting the success of the ongoing political transformation from wherever she can. “We must make this change succeed, and I will help in any way possible,” she added.
