Newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki assumed office on Sunday during a ceremony held at Singha Durbar.
The oath-taking was arranged in the new building of the Ministry of Home Affairs, as the Prime Minister’s Office building had been damaged by fire during the Janji movement, leading to the temporary establishment of the Prime Minister’s office in the new ministry building.
Before taking office, Prime Minister Karki visited the Martyrs’ Memorial in Lainchour and offered a wreath at the memorial.
Acting on the recommendation of Janji representatives, President Ramchandra Paudel appointed former Chief Justice Karki as Prime Minister under Article 61 of the Constitution.
Prime Minister Karki is preparing to form a small-sized cabinet. Earlier on Saturday, she visited various hospitals to meet those injured during the Janji movement.
