Newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that she did not come to enjoy power.
After assuming office at Singha Durbar on Sunday, PM Karki told senior officials during a discussion that she would hold elections within six months and then step down.
“I have not come here out of desire. People on the streets demanded that Sushila Karki be given this responsibility, so I was compelled. I did not come to enjoy power—this is not the age for that. I will stay only for six months. After that, under no circumstances will I continue. I want to work and be free, handing over responsibilities and duties to the newly elected MPs and ministers. But this will not be possible without everyone’s support,” she said.
Expressing concern over targeted attacks and arson at key institutions including the Supreme Court and Singha Durbar, PM Karki noted that although physical structures could be rebuilt, the destruction of records, files, and data has pushed the administration into a vacuum.
She pledged that investigations would be carried out and those involved in destroying structures and erasing official records would be brought to justice.
