Kathmandu – Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki is set to expand her Cabinet today, Monday, just a day after assuming office. She is preparing to induct three ministers in what will be a small expansion of the Council of Ministers.
According to the finalized decision, former Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, will take charge of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. Advocate Om Prakash Aryal has been assigned the Home Ministry along with the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, while former Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal will head the Ministry of Finance.
Karki has already forwarded these names to the Office of the President. President Ram Chandra Paudel is expected to appoint the ministers today, followed by the swearing-in ceremony at Sheetal Niwas.
The Cabinet reshuffle comes in the aftermath of violent protests led by Gen-Z youths across Kathmandu and other parts of the country last Monday and Tuesday. Following the unrest, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli resigned from the post of Prime Minister.
After his resignation, former Chief Justice Karki was appointed interim Prime Minister last Friday with the backing of Gen-Z forces.
