
The death toll from clashes and arson during the Jen-Z protests in Koshi Province on September 8–9 (Bhadra 23–24) has reached 10.
According to police, five of the victims have been identified, while no relatives have come forward to claim the remaining five bodies. So far, three deaths have been confirmed in Birtamod, Jhapa, and two in Itahari, Sunsari. The deceased in Itahari are Abhishek Shrestha (23) of Itahari-16 and Mohan Sardar, also known as Changkhe (40), of Itahari-14.
In Birtamod, those killed in the September 8 clashes were Gopal Sedhai (30) of Arjundhara-11, Dinesh Rajbanshi (32) of Arjundhara-8, and Kamal Bhandari (30) of Hilihang, Panchthar.
Police reported that 114 officers were injured across the province, including five in serious condition, 57 with moderate injuries, and the rest having returned to duty after minor treatment. On the protesters’ side, 46 people have been injured so far.
Meanwhile, four charred bodies recovered from the Bhatbhateni Supermarket fire in Dharan on September 9 remain unidentified, according to the Area Police Office, Dharan. The supermarket was torched during the protests, and four bodies were found inside on September 12.
Additionally, one more unidentified body was discovered on Monday at the Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Biratnagar. No relatives have come forward to claim it, and all unidentified bodies are being kept at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences after postmortem examinations.
