Prisoners who escaped from Gaur Prison in Rautahat on September 9 (Bhadra 24) will face an additional five years in jail if they fail to surrender, according to Rautahat District Police Office.
Police issued a notice on Tuesday urging the escapees to report to the nearest police office or Gaur Prison. Some inmates have already come into contact, while many remain at large.
DSP Raju Karki, spokesperson for Rautahat Police, said those who do not surrender will be punished with up to five extra years under Section 49(g) of the Prison Act 2022.
During the Jen-Z protests, weak security allowed 260 inmates to escape from Gaur Prison. Of them, 211 are still on the run, according to prison chief Manish Jha. Since then, the Nepali Army has been deployed for prison security, and prohibitory orders remain in place around Gaur for security purposes.
