Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has said that the Genji movement arose due to the arrogance and conceit of the then ruling leadership. In a statement issued Wednesday, he remarked that the failure to address the legitimate demands of Genji youths in time led to dozens of young people sacrificing their lives and caused the nation to bear heavy losses.
According to Nepal, the movement was the outcome of frustration and anger stemming from the lack of transparent and accountable governance in line with the people’s aspirations after the establishment of the democratic republic. He added that corruption, misgovernance, unemployment, youth outmigration, and indifference toward economic and social transformation fueled the situation.
Welcoming the formation of the interim government and the announcement of election dates as positive steps, Nepal emphasized that only by ending corruption, ensuring good governance, creating employment, and providing opportunities for youths within the country can the martyrs be truly honored.
