Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the Nepali Congress, has extended his greetings on the occasion of Constitution Day 2082, calling Nepal’s Constitution a significant achievement of the people’s long struggle and democratic movements. He emphasized that the successful implementation of the Constitution ensures democracy, human rights, and social justice in the country.
Chairperson Deuba recalled that the Constitution of Nepal, promulgated on Ashwin 3, 2072 BS, was drafted by the elected representatives under the leadership of the Nepali Congress. He described it as the product of repeated revolutions, struggles, and democratic movements.
On this sacred occasion of Constitution Day, Deuba paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives for democracy and reiterated the commitment to building a democratic, human-rights-friendly, and socially just society as envisioned by the Constitution. The former Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Constitution provides important inspiration for its protection, the stability of the federal democratic republican system, and advancing the country toward economic prosperity.
He further stressed that the Constitution, as the supreme law of the land, should be the framework for resolving any political complexities that may arise. “If this is not followed, seeking political stability outside the Constitution could lead to further instability,” Deuba stated. He added that ensuring the country’s prosperity through the successful implementation of the current Constitution is a shared responsibility for all Nepalis.
