Bhatbhateni Superstore, which suffered massive damages during the protests of September 9 (Bhadra 24), has announced that none of its employees will lose their jobs. The company has further committed to providing Dashain bonuses to all staff despite the setbacks.
Out of its 28 branches nationwide, 22 came under attack, leaving 12 branches inoperable. Among them, five branches inside the Kathmandu Valley—Naxal, Maharajgunj, Boudha-Chucchepati, Koteshwor, and Baluwatar—and seven branches outside the Valley—Pokhara, Chitwan, Hetauda, Birtamod, Damak, Biratnagar, and Dharan—will only reopen after reconstruction.
Commitment to Full Restoration
Amid declining morale in the private sector, Bhatbhateni Chairman Min Bahadur Gurung pledged to bring all stores back into operation. He announced that Valley branches would reopen within four months, while those outside would resume within 10 months.
“We will rise even from the ashes,” Gurung said. “We will rebuild every store and ensure that no one linked to us loses their livelihood. Even if we have to take loans, we will make sure everyone can celebrate Dashain.”
Currently, Bhatbhateni employs around 10,000 staff, who are being reassigned to operating branches to secure their jobs. In the last fiscal year, the company recorded sales worth NPR 27 billion.
Expressing sorrow at being targeted despite serving the people and the nation, Gurung appealed to customers for patience during the reconstruction phase.
