Attorney General Sarita Bhandari Baral has credited the Gen-Z movement with ushering in a new era of governance reform in Nepal.
Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Sunday, Baral said the youth-led protests against corruption marked the beginning of a new chapter demanding good governance.
According to her, young demonstrators even faced bullets during the movement but sacrificed not for personal gain or positions, rather for the establishment of transparency, meritocracy, and an end to forced migration.
“The Gen-Z generation did not protest for individual interests. Their demands were for good governance, recognition of competence, and freedom from the compulsion to go abroad,” she emphasized, adding that the youths sought to end the need for job-seeking through personal connections.
Baral also highlighted that protesters did not damage public property, stating that even during tense moments they refrained from acts of vandalism.
She clarified that incidents such as attacks on government attorney offices and courts by escaped prisoners after a jail break cannot be linked to the Gen-Z movement.
