
Former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha is set to take office as the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has decided to assign him the portfolio, which was previously overseen by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal.
Sinha was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice on 17 Shrawan 2073 (2016) and retired upon reaching the mandatory age of 65 on 14 Kartik 2080 (2023).
He began his legal career after graduating from Nepal Law Campus in 2039 BS (1982/83) and was a senior advocate specializing in tax and corporate law before joining the Supreme Court.
During his seven-year tenure as a justice, he played a pivotal role in adjudicating constitutional, criminal, and commercial cases, including:
- The qualification dispute of then-CIAA Chief Lokman Singh Karki,
- The first dissolution of the House of Representatives by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on 5 Poush 2077, and
- Tax settlement commission disputes.
He was also part of the bench that opened the door for investigation into the government land misappropriation case at Lalit Niwas, Baluwatar, guiding the Cabinet’s policy decisions through judicial review.
