Dr. Sangita Kaushal Mishra, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Health, who was recently blocked from a promotion to Health Secretary, is set to be appointed Health Minister.
According to senior sources, Prime Minister Sushila Karki has selected her for the position.
Earlier, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had bypassed Dr. Mishra, promoting Dr. Bikash Devkota to Secretary instead. Following this, Dr. Mishra reportedly went on leave due to dissatisfaction. She has now resigned from her bureaucratic post to take up the ministerial role.
Dr. Mishra is a specialist in sexual and reproductive health as well as obstetrics and gynecology. She has previously led the Department of Health Services and the Patan-based Paropakar Maternity Hospital.
