
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, held a courtesy meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Nepal, Toru Maeda, at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in Singha Durbar. During the meeting, Ambassador Maeda congratulated Minister Ghising and extended best wishes for a successful tenure.
The discussion focused on Japan’s long-standing role as a reliable development partner for Nepal, covering bilateral grants, loans, multilateral and technical assistance, and the implementation status of ongoing projects. Specific projects discussed included additional support for the under-construction Nagdhunga tunnel, reconstruction of the BP Highway, required support for the 140 MW Tanahu Hydropower Project, Koteshwor junction improvement, and progress in electricity transmission and distribution system upgrades.
Highlighting Japan’s significant contribution to Nepal’s development priorities, Minister Ghising requested support for strategically important power projects, including the 670 MW Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project, the 1,200 MW Budhigandaki Reservoir-based Project, infrastructure project preparations, and an integrated master plan for urban management in the Kathmandu Valley over the next century.
Ambassador Maeda assured that the Japanese government is ready to provide assistance for Nepal’s strategically important large-scale projects.
