
The Kathmandu Valley Mayors’ Forum has announced a financial contribution of Rs 50 million for the reconstruction of the historic Singha Durbar, which was damaged during Gen-Z protests involving vandalism and arson.
Making the decision public on Friday, Forum chair Chiribabu Maharjan stated that the board meeting resolved to support the rebuilding of Singha Durbar and damaged police offices.
He said, “We will provide Rs 50 million from the Forum for the reconstruction of the historic and national heritage building, Singha Durbar. To strengthen security in the Kathmandu Valley, we will also provide Rs 10 million to the Valley Police Office for the installation of a CCTV system, help rebuild vandalized police posts, and assist municipalities affected by vandalism and arson based on damage assessments to facilitate service delivery.”
The Kathmandu Valley Mayors’ Forum comprises the mayors and deputy mayors of the 18 municipalities in the Valley, while the chairs and vice-chairs of three rural municipalities are invited members.
