Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has called on the government to expedite the passage of the School Education Bill.
Speaking at an educational dialogue program organized by the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary) in Kathmandu on Thursday, Prachanda claimed that the bill has been stalled in the parliamentary committee due to the Nepali Congress and UML. He urged the government to move it forward without delay.
Prachanda stated that 90 percent of problems in the education sector could be resolved if the School Education Bill is passed and the report of the Higher Education Commission is implemented. He blamed the lack of laws aligned with the spirit of the Constitution for the stagnation in educational reforms.
He also criticized major political parties for prioritizing the private sector over improving the quality of education. Prachanda suggested that attempts to bring reform in the education system are often attacked by the major parties and remarked that another revolution may be needed in Nepal.
He accused the current government of failing to carry out any meaningful work in favor of the country and the people.
Responding to student queries, Prachanda asserted that Ramhari Khatiwada, Chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, has no moral right to remain in the position and warned that his refusal to resign would be a grave mistake.
