
Thirteen individuals from Jajarkot district, Nepal, have gone missing after a flash flood struck Harsil area of Uttarkashi in India’s Uttarakhand state on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Harichandra Basnet, Chairperson of Kushe Rural Municipality, all 13 missing individuals are residents of Ward No. 2 of the municipality. They had gone to India for labor work and have not been in contact since the flood hit.
In a statement issued today, Chairperson Basnet said, “Those who went missing after the flood have not been in contact till now. Their families have reported being unable to reach them.”
Chairperson Basnet has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal to assist in locating the missing persons. He also mentioned that residents from other wards of Kushe Rural Municipality, who were also working in the same region, have not been in contact either.
Chief District Officer of Jajarkot, Mekh Bahadur Mangrati, confirmed that Kushe Rural Municipality had informed the district administration about the disappearance of some locals due to the flood.
“I have instructed all local governments and police units in the district to collect the names of Jajarkot residents who went to work in the Harsil area. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also been notified accordingly,” said CDO Mangrati.
