Nepal has achieved a historic milestone by defeating the West Indies, a strong Test-playing nation, in the three-match T20 International series held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE.
On Monday night, Nepal sealed the series with a dominant 90-run victory in the second match, securing back-to-back wins and taking an unassailable 2–0 lead. This marks Nepal’s first-ever series win against a Test-playing nation.
In the first match, Nepal had scripted history with a 19-run win, but the second game saw an even more commanding performance. Batting first, Nepal posted a solid total of 173/6. Opener Aasif Sheikh led the charge with an unbeaten 68 off 47 balls, while Sandeep Jora smashed 63 off 39 balls. The duo shared a brilliant 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket, setting up the innings.
In reply, West Indies were bundled out for just 83 runs in 17.1 overs. Apart from Jason Holder’s 21, none of the Caribbean batters could withstand Nepal’s fiery bowling attack. Returning to the national team after three years, Mohammad Aadil Alam shone with a dream spell, claiming 4 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. Kushal Bhurtel grabbed 3 wickets, while Lalit Rajbanshi, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Karan KC took one each.
This triumph is not just historic but also a major confidence booster for Nepali cricket.
The third and final match will be played tonight at 8:15 PM NST, where Nepal will aim for a clean sweep to further etch its name in cricketing history.
