Officials from the Election Commission held a meeting with Prime Minister Sushila Karki today to discuss preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The meeting, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, focused on ensuring cooperation between the government and political parties in implementing the election schedule, which has already been made public. The Election Commission had announced the official election timetable on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha, and Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari along with other commissioners.
Earlier, on Ashwin 7 (September 23), Election Commission officials had also met with Prime Minister Karki to discuss election-related issues. Following the “GenZ” protests on Bhadra 23 and 24, a new government was formed under former Chief Justice Karki, and the House of Representatives was dissolved, with elections announced for Falgun 21 (March 5, 2026).
According to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prayasad Bhattarai, the Commission is committed to conducting free, fair, independent, and cost-effective elections. He stated that the Commission expects the government’s support in arranging and mobilizing the necessary resources.
He further mentioned that discussions were also held on ensuring maximum citizen participation in the election, holding consultations with registered political parties before Tihar, and estimating the resources used in previous elections to request additional budgetary support for the upcoming polls.
Meanwhile, to conduct the elections within the stipulated time, the voter registration process is underway following an amendment to the Voter Registration Act, 2073 (2016).
