With the slogan “Local Services, Global Reach,” World Post Day is being celebrated today across various countries around the globe.
The day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), founded in 1874 in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Since then, October 9 has been observed every year as World Post Day.
The World Postal Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969 officially declared October 9 as World Post Day. Since then, countries around the world have been celebrating this day annually. On this occasion, many postal organizations introduce new postal products and promotional programs to enhance their services.
On the occasion of World Post Day, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated in his message that postal services play a key role in maintaining communication between urban and rural areas. He highlighted that the network of postal workers connects remote villages and cities, making the world more accessible to everyone.
