
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against former Vice-Chancellor of Rapti Health Sciences Academy, Dr. Sangeeta Bhandari, at the Special Court on Thursday. She has been accused of financial irregularities in the procurement of an MRI machine.
According to the CIAA, the case has been filed under Section 8(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 (2002), citing a total loss of NPR 120.76 million. The commission has demanded imprisonment as per the Act, a fine equivalent to the loss amount, and the recovery of NPR 93.43 million allegedly misused.
Additionally, the CIAA has requested extra punishment under Section 24 of the same Act.
Dr. Bhandari is the sister of former minister Sharad Singh Bhandari and is currently a faculty member at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
