Former Member of Parliament Sumana Shrestha has warned the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) not to attempt to become the nation’s sole common enemy.
She stated that at a time when the entire Nepali society is ready for a fresh mandate, the move by leaders of major political parties—“who are drowned in selfishness and lust for power”—to push for parliamentary reinstatement goes against the spirit of the youth revolution of Bhadra 23.
“History of Nepal and the world stands witness—ordinary citizens unite beyond lines of division against the forces leading a ‘counter-revolution,’” she reminded, adding, “Therefore, it would be wise for the Congress or UML not to attempt to become the nation’s common enemy.”
Through social media, Shrestha also remarked that doubting the fairness of elections is merely a “pathetic excuse by murderers, corrupt, cowardly, and criminal elements who cannot face the people.” She asserted that the Nepali people clearly understand that those who call themselves democratic but fail to act democratically are simply trying to flee from the practice of democracy.
According to her, inciting their sister organizations to lead the society—already taking peaceful steps toward a solution—back into conflict amounts to preparing for a counter-revolution.
