
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee stated that Machado was recognized for her efforts to “keep the light of democracy burning amid growing darkness.”
Announcing the award at a ceremony in Oslo on Friday, the committee praised her struggle for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy in Venezuela.
In a post on X, the Nobel Committee highlighted that the prize was awarded for her “continuous efforts to promote the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and her struggle for a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
