
Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has urged all political parties to act responsibly and uphold the rule of law, rising above provocation, bias, and revenge.
Speaking to journalists at the Congress Party Office in Sanepa on Friday, Lekhak clarified that he did not issue any order to use force during the recent Gen Z movement. He also stated that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and he did not authorize the use of firearms or any repressive measures against protesters.
Lekhak dismissed rumors that the prime minister or home minister had ordered police to open fire, calling them baseless. He added that infiltration within the movement led to painful incidents.
He emphasized the need to understand and address the demands raised by the Gen Z generation in accordance with democratic values and principles. Lekhak expressed confidence that the commission formed to investigate the movement would work as per the country’s constitution and legal framework.
This was Lekhak’s first public statement a month after the Gen Z protests.
