The Ministry of Health and Population has directed all government, community, private hospitals, and medical colleges across the country to immediately implement a five-point provision regarding the remuneration and service facilities of doctors, nurses, and other health workers.
According to the ministry, although the directives were issued as per the decision made on Mangsir 27, 2081 BS, they have not yet been fully implemented. The ministry has therefore instructed hospitals to enforce them immediately and submit a progress report.
As per the directive, no health institution is allowed to pay nurses or other health professionals less than the minimum salary set by the Government of Nepal. Those who work beyond regular hours must be provided additional allowances.
The directive also mandates that hospitals and educational institutions must sign formal employment contracts with health workers, prohibiting the practice of hiring on a daily wage basis. Institutions are also barred from withholding original educational certificates of employees.
Additionally, the ministry has made it mandatory for all institutions to issue experience certificates to health workers and to provide all salary payments through the banking system only.
The ministry has warned that action will be taken against hospitals and institutions that fail to comply with the directive.
