The Israeli army has confirmed that Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who had been missing since the Hamas attack on Israel, is no longer alive.
According to international media reports, Israeli authorities have officially informed Bipin’s family about his death.
On Monday morning, Hamas provided a list of 20 hostages it planned to release that day. However, Bipin Joshi’s name was not on the list, raising serious concerns about his survival.
After three weeks of search and communication efforts, Israeli officials concluded that Bipin is no longer alive.
Bipin Joshi was one of nine Nepali students studying at an agricultural training center near Sderot, in southern Israel. During Hamas’s sudden attack, seven Nepali students were killed, while one was injured but survived.
Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that further official details and arrangements for repatriating Bipin’s body to Nepal will be made public later.
The October 7, 2023 Hamas assault on Israel killed around 1,200 people, including several foreign nationals, and about 250 individuals were taken hostage. Among those affected were the group of Nepali students, during which Bipin Joshi went missing.
