The Palestinian militant group Hamas has handed over the body of Nepali student Bipin Joshi to the Israeli government.
On Monday evening, Hamas, through the Red Cross, transferred the bodies of four individuals — including Bipin Joshi, Gai Ilouz, Yossi Sharabi, and Daniel Perez — to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Until the day other hostages were released, the condition of Bipin Joshi had remained unknown.
According to the IDF, forensic examinations will now be conducted on all four bodies. The remains have been taken to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv for analysis.
Bipin Joshi, originally from Kanchanpur, Nepal, had gone to Israel for his studies. He was taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, 2023, during the group’s attack on a kibbutz area. The same attack claimed the lives of ten Nepali students.
Reports in November 2023 suggested that Bipin had been seen at the Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza, but his condition had remained uncertain since then. Fellow Nepali students rescued from Israel later stated that Bipin had thrown a grenade fired by Hamas militants away from the group, saving their lives during the assault.
