Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has assigned party Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka the responsibility of Acting Party President.
Addressing the party’s Central Committee meeting today, Deuba announced that he had delegated the role to Khadka as he prepares to travel to Singapore for medical treatment. Deuba and his wife were injured during an attack by protesters amid the ongoing GenZ movement, and they are now set to undergo further treatment abroad.
Following Deuba’s announcement, today’s Central Committee meeting was postponed to Thursday at 1 PM.
Chairing today’s session, Deuba said that due to his health condition, he was temporarily handing over his duties to Khadka.
“Owing to health reasons, I have handed over the responsibility of Acting President to the Vice President. The Central Committee will decide the date for the General Convention within the stipulated time,” Deuba stated briefly during the meeting.
He also remarked that a fear-free environment for the elections scheduled for Falgun 21 has not yet been created.
“The government has announced elections for Falgun 21, but a free, fair, and fearless environment has not been ensured. Only when such an environment is created can all parties participate in the election. The government should focus on this,” he added.
