Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has once again drawn attention on social media after posting a photo of himself styled as ‘Lucifer’.
On Instagram, Balen shared the photo saying he did so at the request of his fans. He wrote:
“Brother, please post a photo with Lucifer’s hairstyle. Okay, my friend — if it makes you happy. I don’t know if that style suits me or not.”
A while ago, writer and analyst Saurabh had referred to Balen as Lucifer during an interview. Since then, the term has gained traction on social media and in the media sphere.
Who Is Lucifer?
In Western civilization, Lucifer is often associated with Satan (the devil). The word Lucifer originates from Latin, meaning “light-bringer” or “morning star.”
According to religious texts, Lucifer was once a beautiful, powerful archangel who held a high position in heaven. Renowned for his beauty, strength, and intelligence, he grew proud and sought to make himself equal to God. His pride led to rebellion in heaven, which God deemed sinful. As punishment, Lucifer was cast out of heaven.
After his fall, he became known as a “fallen angel” and took the form of Satan, the tempter who leads humans astray. In many interpretations, the serpent that tempted Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit is considered one of Lucifer’s forms.
Balen’s “Lucifer-style” photo has since sparked widespread discussion and mixed reactions across social media platforms.
