Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has advised party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to act as a guardian for all political leaders, not just those within the ruling alliance.
Addressing a felicitation program for senior active citizens organized by the Nepali Congress Ward Committee in Biratnagar-4, Koirala suggested that Deuba invite leaders of other parties to his residence for tea and hold discussions on the country’s pressing issues.
“Sher Bahadur Deuba is the most senior political leader in the country today,” Koirala said. “It would be wise for him to invite leaders from all parties for tea and discuss the country’s development. But instead, he seems to avoid meeting leaders outside the ruling coalition. As a leader, one must engage with everyone.”
Koirala emphasized that he himself meets leaders from all sides, citing his meetings with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli—even when they were in opposition.
He further warned that the Nepali Congress would weaken without youth engagement, which in turn would weaken democracy and the nation as a whole.
“Without democracy, the people of Nepal cannot survive,” he stated, urging the party to increase youth participation to ensure the stability and strength of democratic governance.
