The CPN (Unified Socialist) has called a Politburo meeting for Kartik 11. According to the party’s Deputy Head of the Publicity Department, Damodar Aryal, the Central Committee meeting will be held from Kartik 12 to 14, following the Politburo session.
Both meetings will take place at the Miracle Party Venue in Sukedhara.
The meetings are expected to hold extensive discussions on the current political situation following the Gen-Z uprising, possible party unification, and preparations for upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, internal pressure on party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal to hand over leadership has reportedly been increasing. However, Chairman Nepal is said to be preparing for party unification with the Maoist Centre and other parties within the Socialist Front after Tihar.
Senior leaders including Jhala Nath Khanal and General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal, however, are against unification with the Maoist Centre. They have emphasized party restructuring and electoral preparations instead of party merger.
The Standing Committee meeting held last Thursday also held initial discussions on a unification proposal with the Maoists.
Additionally, CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, through the recently concluded UML Central Committee meeting, appealed to Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal to return to their “original party.” This issue is also expected to be discussed in the upcoming meeting.
