CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that peace and security in the country have collapsed. He made this statement on Sunday during an interaction program with editors held in Kathmandu.
Oli claimed that although security was well-maintained during his tenure as Prime Minister, the situation has now deteriorated. He said that an atmosphere of fear and tragedy has been created in the country. According to him, the nation has become disorganized and has fallen into instability and uncertainty.
He claimed that he had been moving forward with the development of the country while protecting national sovereignty. Oli said that his loyalty would always remain toward the country, the people, and humanity.
He further stated that even journalists are no longer safe in the current situation. He claimed that during his time as Prime Minister, journalists did not have to live in fear or intimidation because of what they wrote.
He said,
“When I was Prime Minister, journalists did not have to constantly look around in fear, thinking someone might attack them for what they had written. They did not have to walk in fear, practice self-censorship, or restrict themselves before writing. I firmly state that such a terrorized situation did not exist. But now, people are worried—there is fear within their hearts. I cannot understand what is happening. Peace and order have been destroyed. A fearless environment has turned into tragedy. The country was moving forward on the path of development while protecting national sovereignty, but now everything has been ruined. The country has reached instability and uncertainty. Whether people like it or not, my loyalty is with this country, with its people, and with humanity.”
He emphasized that prosperity, equality, and peace should be established in a reliable way in the country. Every citizen must be assured of security, and their life, property, and rights must be protected, he added.
