At least eight people were killed in the Philippines on Sunday due to Tropical Storm Fengshen, while two others remain missing, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo reported that five people died after a tree fell in Pitogo municipality of Quezon province, southeast of Manila. Three others were killed in the Western Visayas region in central Philippines.
Castillo added that search and rescue operations are underway for two people missing after a landslide in Quezon municipality of Bukidnon province in southern Philippines.
Typhoon Fengshen has affected around 15,000 families or about 30,000 individuals across the country. Approximately 22,000 people have been relocated to safer areas, according to reports by Xinhua News Agency.
The storm triggered floods and landslides in parts of central and southern Philippines. The state weather bureau forecasted that Fengshen is expected to exit the Philippines by Monday morning. The Philippines experiences an average of 20 typhoons each year.
