Ganga Dahal, daughter of CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has resigned from her position at her father’s secretariat.
She announced her resignation on Monday through social media.
In her statement, she wrote that continuous attacks were being made against her father Prachanda and the entire party using her as a target, which compelled her to step down.
She wrote:
“In recent times, I have drawn serious attention to the misleading news published about me in various media outlets. I joined the secretariat of my father (CPN Maoist Centre Chairperson Comrade Prachanda) after the demise of my brother Prakash Dahal, and during a time when my mother Sita Dahal was seriously ill. I took responsibility to assist my father based on the suggestion of party leaders.
Despite having to take care of my mother and also fulfill the responsibilities previously handled by my brother, I continued to support the Chairman with a selfless spirit in line with the party’s movement. During this period, I may not have been able to meet everyone’s expectations, and I accept that with self-criticism. But I can proudly say that I never worked for personal gain—my only intention was to help sincerely. Still, it is painful that no matter how hard I tried to stay away from controversy, controversy always found me.
During the People’s War, the state continuously targeted me, my sisters, and my brother, depriving us of education and a normal life—but we continued to stay dedicated to the party. However, some individuals have been spreading propaganda and misleading information about me, massively misusing the media. Sometimes they accuse me of carrying expensive bags, sometimes costly watches. I have never bought a watch or bag costing even one lakh rupees in my life. Those gifts were given by friends on my birthday; whether they were real or fake, they were destroyed in a fire long ago. Still, the same false accusations are repeatedly raised to attack me.
Using me as an excuse, organized attacks are being carried out against CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Prachanda and the entire party. In such a situation, I concluded that it would be best for my father, the party, and the movement if I stepped away from the responsibility of the secretariat. Therefore, I have resigned from the Chairman’s Secretariat. However, as a responsible party worker, I will remain active in the party for life.”
