A powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern Turkish province of Balıkesir on Sunday evening, killing one woman and injuring at least 29 others.
The epicenter was located in the city of Sındırgı. An 81-year-old woman, rescued from the rubble of a collapsed house, died shortly afterward.
Authorities reported that 16 buildings were destroyed by the quake, which struck at 7:53 p.m. local time. Tremors were felt as far away as Istanbul.
